Capable Arts Camp 2007
The Junior League of Baton Rouge, Very Special Arts of Louisiana, and The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge partnered with McMains Childrens Developmental Center for the 7th Annual Capable Arts Camp. The event was held at First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge from June 18th- 22nd. Elissa McKenzie, a physical therapist at McMains and member of the Junior League, served as the coordinator for the event. Molly Donalson, member of the Junior League, was the chair for the event. The theme this year was a Celebration of Life in South Louisiana. Each day nearly sixty children were divided into groups of shrimp, catfish, crawfish, alligators, and pelicans. They participated in painting, drama, dance, and art classes. The classes were facilitated by artists: Becky Coxe, Lori Alexander, Garland Goodwin Wilson, Geeta Dave, and Jean Paul Delahoussaye. Each class allowed the children to learn more about South Louisiana. The last day of the camp parents and friends were invited to a special presentation to showcase the childrens activities from the camp. The Junior League served a Jambalaya dinner for everyone after the final presentation. Thanks to the members of the Junior League, therapists from McMains, and VolunTEENS it was a very successful camp!
