McMains: Rock the Vote

Capable Arts 2005 | 7/20/2005, back

The McMains Center hosted its fifth Capable Arts program June 13th-17th, sponsored by the Junior League of Baton Rouge and Louisiana Art and Science Museum. 42 children explored Space by expressing themselves creatively through adapted sculpture, dance, storytelling, photography, and for the first time, cooking.

When asked about Capable Arts, one mother said (her son) loved camp! He has already said he wants to go next year.

Capable Arts instructors included painter Lori Alexander, dancer Becky Coxe, potter Janine Kharey and cookbook author, Holly Clegg.

Cooking class was a new element added to this years Capable Arts. Holly Clegg and her daughter, Haley, taught the class where children decorated cupcake ice cream cones, and made fruit salad funny faces.

The final art show and performance was held on Friday, June 17th at LASM where the childrens artwork from the week was on display, and where they performed dances about space.
