Al Hindrichs Finalist for Angel Award | 3/9/2005, back

One of the Centers very own angels was a finalist for the distinguished 2004 Blue Cross Angel Award. The award honors those who are making a difference in the lives of Louisiana children. Hindrichs was chosen as one of only 5 finalists from the state of Louisiana. As a finalist, he received $10,000 to donate to the charity of his choice. Hindrichs chose the McMains Children's Developmental Center to be the recipient of the generous gift, and we are so grateful.

Our Center continues to be blessed by Hindrichs love and dedication to children. He is probably best known at the Center for organizing the annual canoe trip to Alligator Bayou for the last five years.

The satisfaction he gets from this project he says cant really be described. You just have to see their faces and see their parents faces when they see their kids doing something they might not otherwise get to do, he says. Some of the children he adds, go out scared to death. They come back relaxed, confident, paddling on their own, and going to town.

Hindrichs is also responsible for the design and construction of the wonderful wheelchair accessible garden behind the Center.

Gardening has now become an integral part of our occupational and speech therapy.

We are so grateful for the countless hours that Hindrichs has devoted to bringing the wonders of nature to our children.
